The Martin School of International Studies administers an undergraduate major and minor in International Studies at the University of Idaho. This interdisciplinary program was designed to prepare students for success in the changing world of business, economics, agriculture, science, technology, diplomacy, and communication. The International Studies major combines a solid foundation in a foreign language with a regional specialization, overseas experience, and an issue emphasis chosen by the student. Students enrolled in other UI colleges may wish to add this as a second major or a minor to increase their international expertise and their marketability in a future career.

Courses are taught by faculty in many departments who have extensive international experience and who can become mentors as students progress through their programs. Coordinated by Director Bill Smith and supported by Program Advisor Kelli Schrand, the undergraduate program boasts nearly 150 students and is growing each year. Even if you never live anywhere but the United States, an International Studies degree will provide the global perspective and competitive edge in careers that will help you meet the challenges of tomorrow.

A number of opportunities to participate in related activities support the International Studies program. The Martin Institute sponsors the Martin Scholars (a group of funded undergraduate students who conduct research into topical international subjects); the International Speakers Series (who speak to campus audiences while 2008 Model UN Delegation

also dining with groups of IS majors); the Model United Nations program (including a trip to the national conference at the UN in New York City); and the International Affairs Club (comprised of students from many majors with interest in international issues and cultures).
