Panel Member Biography

Dr. Susan Dente Ross is a former professional journalist and newspaper owner who earned her Ph.D. in Mass Communication, with an emphasis in media law, from the University of Florida. Now an associate professor in the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication at Washington State University, Dr. Ross directs her scholarly interest toward study of media portrayals of marginalized groups, hate speech, First Amendment law, and citizen access to government information. Co-author of a new book on Images that Image, her research has appeared in Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Communication & Conflict, Communication Law & Policy, Comm/ENT, Federal Communication Law Journal, and Newspaper Research Journal, among others.
